I used to be able to check a formulas by going through it step by step using
a function of the menu. I can not debug formulas that way anymore. where can
I find that function again.

What version of Excel are you using?

An alternative that should work in all versions of Excel (but is not quite
the same as Evaluate Formula):

With the formula cell selected, highlight the portion of the formula you
want to evaluate in the formula bar and then press F9. Press ESC to return
the formula back to its original state. This works but is limited in its
scope.
