Pivot Table - Changing Column Values
 

In any pivot table, I can change any of the non-data values, and Excel will
accept this so long as I am not changing the value name to an already
existing value name.

For example, one of my data-table column headers may be 'Fruit' and in that
column are the values 'pear', 'apple' and 'orange'. Assume 100 records w/ no
nulls in the Fruit column.

After I create the pivot table ('Fruit' column in the 'Row' section) I can
change the value 'pear' to 'YellowPears', and Excel will then change all the
'pear' values to 'YellowPears'. The danger in this is that some creative
person could change my 3 fruit values to "", " ", and " " respectively. Or
he could change 'pear' to "", then change 'apple' to 'pear', then change ""
to 'apple'.

QUESTION: Besides re-creating the pivot table, is there any way to get the
original pivot table to revert back to the actual column names in the
original data source table?

Remove the field that has been changed from your pivot table.
Refresh the pivot table.
Then add back the field that was changed.
The original values should be shown now.
