Using replace to get rid of paragraph return character
I have a non-functioning paragraph return symbol at the end of all my text
strings (from info I pulled off the web). ^p in the replace box doesn't get rid of them. Any ideas? |

Try Alt+0182 in the find box. (Hold down ALT key, 0182 must be typed from
numeric keypad.) If they are the actual symbol, rather than returns, that should find them. "Raku" wrote: I have a non-functioning paragraph return symbol at the end of all my text strings (from info I pulled off the web). ^p in the replace box doesn't get rid of them. Any ideas? |

Try Ctrl+j (or Alt+0010 on Numeric keypad) in the replace box maybe.

Using replace to get rid of paragraph return character
alt+0182 brought up the return symbol in the find box (great to know, by the
way), but excel doesn't seem to recognize them as such. Is there a copy and paste function that can be used for the find box? Would they be easier to get rid of in another program (I've tried Word, no luck)? Thanks "BoniM" wrote: Try Alt+0182 in the find box. (Hold down ALT key, 0182 must be typed from numeric keypad.) I've tried it, but I can't get the copy /paste function to work in the 'find
what' box in either excel or word. "bj" wrote: have you tried copying the charater and pasting into find? "Raku" wrote: I have a non-functioning paragraph return symbol at the end of all my text strings (from info I pulled off the web). ^p in the replace box doesn't get rid of them. Any ideas? |

I have a similar problem but I need to put the hard paragraph back into the
text which was copied over from Word into Excel. In the Replace with box I've tried alt 0010, alt 0182, alt 0160 (all on the number pad) but each time I get an error saying "formula too long." The alt 0182 shows the hard paragraph symbol but I get the message. The alt 0160 shows a period. |

Alt + 0010 in the "replace with" box will give you a CR in the cell. Must be typed in using the NumPad at right, not the number keys above qwerty. You don't want Alt 0160.......that is non-breaking space. Alternative to Alt + 0010 is CTRL j Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Thu, 10 May 2007 12:23:05 -0700, philr wrote: I have a similar problem but I need to put the hard paragraph back into the text which was copied over from Word into Excel.
