Filter by month, then day, not just day

I have a shared excel 2003 file where in 1 column, there are dates (lots of
duplicates).
The autofilter works differently on different computers.
One computer, the drop down is organized by month first, then date.
But on other computers, it is organized by date first ( Jan 01, Feb 01, Mar
01,Jan 02, Feb 02, Mar 02)
I want to see Jan 1, Jan 2, Jan3, Feb 1, Feb 2, Feb 3 etc. in the drop down.
Is there a setting to fix this (or an add-in that is not installed on all
computers)?
Thanks,
Joe

Sounds like the short date in the regional settings of the control panel of
the two pc's is set differently. That's just a guess, tho.
