Creating "Locked" forms
Hi, in my office, i have some forms with columns and row heights all aligned
and created to my needs. problem is that whenever the file passes through another user, all the alignments get changed, whether intentionally or unintentionally. is there a way to lock a worksheet(s) such that i can pass along the file to others to use as blank forms, and enter data without modifying all the setup. thank you in advance. -- Message posted via http://www.officekb.com |

Each cell can be locked or unlocked (format|cells|protection tab).
After you lock the cells you want locked and unlocked the cells you want unlocked, you can protect the worksheet with Tools|Protection|protect sheet. You can assign it a password--but be aware that this kind of protection isn't made to protect your intellectual content--but it is made to stop the average user from overwriting your formulas and changing formats that you don't want changed. In xl2002+, you have more control over what else the user can do when the worksheet is protected. If using Excel 2002 or newer you have quite a few options when protecting the
worksheet, like allowing only certain cells to be edited and column widths and row heights to be locked from re-formatting. This may do the job for you. But the other user's Printer Driver can wreak havoc on the view in the other computer. Also the other user's Screen Resolution can affect the view. Try saving the workbook with that particular sheet's Print SetupPage set to "Fit to" 1 page wide by 1 page tall. thank you both for your replies...
basically, we all print out of the same printer in the office. it is just that i have set up specific data/costing sheets and each time i assign someone else to do it, it comes back a mess. perhaps i am a bit too obsessed or i have OCD. i will try to play around with those suggestions. thanks again. -- Message posted via OfficeKB.com http://www.officekb.com/Uwe/Forums.a...excel/200703/1 |
