When making any changes to your source document how do you get the linked
documents to follow any changes. For example, inserting rows and/or moving data to other locations in the source document, when doing this the linked documents do not follow the moves. The linked documents data changes to whatever row/column it was originally linked to. Thanks for any help! |

Hate to be the one to tell you, but generally when I find myself duplicating
data in this manner it's because I really need to be using a database and not spreadsheets. For a more intelligent answer that's more close to what you're looking for, I think you'll have to give some specific examples. Also, it'll require VBA, so you'll want to ask it in that newsgroup instead of in the Miscellaneous one. **************************** Hope it helps! Here is what I am trying to accomplish.
My source doc. is a main listing of all of my companys available product listings. I am customizing an order form for each client to list only the product selection that they purchase. So there are many different versions of linked docs that rely on the source doc. If any row and/or columns are added to the source doc to add new info, the original information does not move accordingly in the linked docs. The info is now bogus because the linked docs are linked to specific cells and will not follow the movement/changes. They simply change to what ever is now in them and not the original data. The original data was moved to another location with the source doc row/column insertions. Or, if I want to reorganize the source doc and move items to another location, the linked docs become bogus info too. Is there a way that the linked docs can follow any source document cell movement/changes as described above. Thanks! Not to my knowledge, no. As I said, I'd be using a database if it got this
involved. Sorry. I suspect that no one else has commented 'cause they agree. **************************** Hope it helps! Hi,
when you link to the source document, only the abosolute reference of the source document is maintained. The references are not relative. So if you make changes in the source document, you must relink to the source document again. Eevn if you copy and paste the data using paste special command.
