I open excel and when I touch a cell with the mouse it gets stuck
 

When I open an excel file as soon as I click on any cell with the mouse it
gets stuck and the mouse freezes. If i move the mouse it drags the cells up
or down but nothing else can be done. The only thing that can be done is to
go down to the desktop and exit excel. I am getting desperate because I
cannot read any of my files or work with them. I wonder if it is a bug or a
virus. I appreciate the suggestions.

Most often caused by hitting the F8 key and putting yourself into "Extended
Mode".

If you see EXT on status bar hit F8 again to clear.

Another fix can be tapping the wheel on your wheelie-mouse a few times.
