Office 2007 Professional
I purchased Windows Office 2007 with my new desktop but cannot load it on to
my laptop as it will not accept the registration code. Why? |

I'll hazard a guess: that the copy you purchased with your desktop system is
an "OEM" version that probably has testing code in the setup routine to check make/model of the system you are attempting to install it onto. You see that on some software occassionally, especially OEM. For example, I have a system at work that we added an external Sony CD/DVD burner to and it came with Nero Burning ROM package. I tried to use that software to burn a CD on the CD burner that came with the Sony computer and was informed that "this version of Nero only works with Sony CD/DVD drives" - it is OEM (with the external drive) and so it checks what type of drive you're trying to use it with. If the copy of Office 2007 is standard retail version, I don't believe you should be having the problem unless Microsoft changed their Office EULA with 2007. In the past it has been permitted to install on a desktop and another machine (laptop) with the intent that the same person would be using both machines and that the two copies would not be in use at the same time. You can give your desktop's Tech Support a phone call and ask them why you cannot do the second install, they may be able to confirm, or deny, any restrictions against installing it on a second system with the version that they are providing with their desktops.
