How do I prevent excel from opening with a blank worksheet?

I rarely start a new spreadsheet from scratch...most of the time I want to
just open Excel, but with no blank/template loading automatically. Where do
I set this switch...maybe in the Registry??! thanks in advance

You can create a new shortcut and use that.

Use something like this as the target:
"C:\yourpathto\excel.exe" /e

This procedure clears all ways in which a workbook could be loaded.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
Clear the contents of the At startup, open all files in box.

Remove workbooks stored in the XLStart folder.

In Windows Explorer, remove the icon of the workbook you want to open in an
alternate startup folder.

Remove a startup switch from the Excel icon.

Right-click the Excel icon that you want to use to open Excel, and clear the
contents of the Target box.

That does not seem to work. The target is a greyed out
Microsoft Office XP Professional that I cannot change. The Start
in: box is empty.

How do I prevent excel from opening with a blank worksheet?

Since I upgraded to Excel 2007 the Tools/Options choice does not exist
anymore. I have opened the Options box but I could not find a way to prevent
a blank worksheet from opening on startup. Please tell me how to accomplish
this in Excel 2007; it is very annoying when I just want to open an existing
file. Thanks.

If you just want to open an existing file, double-click the file
instead of starting Excel yourself.

You can't do this in 2007
