Default cell position on file open

Hi,

When I open a new excel file, the file opens with the cursor positioned at
cell A1; for existing files, the default cell positioning is at the last
saved position. Is there a way to change the default position of the cursor
for all new workbooks. I searched the file options but not able to find a
setting for this.

Chandra

Unless otherwise directed by a macro a file will open to where it was last
saved. So, in the ThisWorkbook module in a before_save or workbook_open
macro put in

application goto sheets("yourdesiredsheetname").range("a1")

You don't like A1 being selected when a new workbook opens?

Which cell would you like to be selected?

To have all NEW workbooks the same, you can create a Template.

Open a new workbook. Customize as you wish.

FileSave As Type: scroll down to Excel Template(*.XLT) and select. Name your
workbook "BOOK"(no quotes). Excel will add the .XLT to save as BOOK.XLT.

Store this workbook in the XLSTART folder usually located at........

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

This will be the default workbook for FileNew or the Toolbar button FileNew

WARNING................Do not use FileNew...Blank Workbook or you will get the
Excel default workbook.

NOTE: Existing workbooks are not affected by these settings.

You can also open a new workbook and delete all but one sheet. Customize as
you wish then save this as SHEET.XLT in XLSTART folder also. It now becomes
the default InsertSheet.

More can be found on this in Help under "templates"(no quotes).
