Subtotal in "Data" menu
 

Hello
How can I copy/past only the result of using the subtotal in the data menu.
For the moment, if I do a subtotal and want to copy somewhere else the
result of what I am counting (by clicking on the left handside of the screen
on number 2) I end up copying all the data in between. Is there a way to just
copy the results please. I work with 2003 version

Subtotal in "Data" menu
 

Pascale,

Right Click on the cell that has the value you want to copy and select copy.

Got to the cell that you want to paste and right click, select PASTE
SPECIAL. This will present you with other options, select VALUE.

This will result in the value being copied, however, if the original cell
value changes than you will have to do the above again.

If you want you new destination cell to change if the initial cell changes
then assuming that the cell that has the value of the sum total is in C20,
and you want to replicate this value in cell b20, then go to b20 and type in
=c20.

I am sorry to say "been there, done that, does not work"
Lets say that the title of A1 is name, title of B1 is course. When requiring
subtotal, I request to have the total shown in the "name" column. When I
select to only see the results, copy and past, it shows all the rows between
the result (ie the name).
As my spreadsheet has 1400 rows I do not want to have to individually select
the rows. Would you have another option please? Thanks

I found this on the net but did not try it yet.

1. add Subtotals to the list
2. in the Subtotal levels click level 2
3. selct a cell in the list and press Ctrl+Shift+*
4. to selct visible scells press Alt+;
OR
press F5 and in the Go To dialog box click Special dialog box, select
Visible cells only and click OK
OR press Select visible cells icon
5. Copy and paste the summary of the subtotals into a different sheet

Lets say that the title of A1 is name, title of B1 is course. When

Pascale,

Try the following:-

Select the Rows you want by ensuring you select them by holding down the
CTRL key (this will select whole rows).

Having selected them, select copy, go to an empty row and select, paste
special, values.

I have tried the above in Excel 2002, and I get it to copy the exact text
and not the underlining data.
