Comparing similar data on different sheet tabs
 

I have an Excel spreadsheet with two sheet tabs. Sheet1 has 900 construction
projects at 600 schools (some schools have more than one project and the
school name is listed in Column D). Sheet2 has a list of the 300 schools I am
working on which is listed in Column A. Is there a way, using the formula
bar, to compare the list of 300 schools on sheet2 to the 600 schools on
sheet1 so that I can filter sheet1 to show only the schools I am working on?

I don't know what you mean by "using the formula bar".
If you want to see the data in Sheet1 that pertains to just one school,
simply use Auto Filter.
If this doesn't help, please post back and explain what you want to do.

I have been researching on how to compare two list of data and it seems to
start as this in the formula bar: =ISNA(MATCH(enter criteria here to compare
the list))
But I have been busy with work and have not gotten any farther. I found a
tutorial to help me. Here is the link:

"Compare two lists of data" is a generic term and can mean many things.
Exactly what do you want to do once you have "compared" the two lists? HTH
