Most CV templates don't wow people.

What works depends on location and employment sector.

Write something along the following lines:

Name etc
Professional profile (soft, what you bring to an organisation, some sensible
aspirations)
Key achievements (hard facts, demonstrates at a glance the value you add)
Career history (most recent job first, split each role into two -
Responsibilities and Achievements, i.e. what were you meant to do, what did
you do)
Education (in this order: Degree, 16-18, pre-16, professional qualifications
and other relevant)
Other relevant skills, e.g. IT etc.
Something about your outside interests. Only list stuff that demonstyrates
the qualities they're looking for)
Refs - available on request

Keep it to two pages. Don't shrink type size etc. If you're having trouble
fitting it in, write a longer one and edit it down - don't include
everything, simply include the bits that sell you. Avoid lengthy
explanations - bullet it and keep it brief - your points will have more
impact and leave the reader wondering how you managed to do whatever is is
that you did.

Make sure presentation, spelling and grammer are tip-top. Remember, a
recruiter will see hundreds of CVs and will be looking for excuses to throw
them away - it makes their job easier. If your CV looks like you've not made
the effort, then they're not likely to make the effort to meet you.

Anything else - just reply.

P.S. Once you've written your CV, get it reviewed by somebody sensible.

Also - I think careeranalysis.com or something like that offers a free basic
CV review. Bear in mind they're not a CV writing service, so have something
that looks good before you contact them - they'll help fine-tune it.
