####### appearing on top of numbers

Hi all. I am completely new to Excel. I was formating a selected range to
include a floating dollar sign and when I completed, the numbers in the first
and last cell on the first row are covered by ######. When I double click the
cell, the number appears will not remain. Help. Thanks

##### means your column isn't wide enough to show the data in there..

normally when the cross hatching is in place of a number it is because your
column is not wide enough to fit the number. Try widening the column until
your number appears. (Sometimes if you have a number in place and then give
it formatting or bold it or change a font it suddenly becomes too large for
the cell, so just widen the cell.)

The column is too narrow, make it wider by double clicking on the column
heading between the letter of the column and the next column (you get a
souble arrow when you are in the correct place)

Make the column wider by dragging the column header to the right.

Or select the column header and FormatColumnAutofit selection.
