Format adds 2 spots in front of number
I got this question third hand from my mother and wondering if anyone knows:
My father has a spreadsheet that has formulas puts in 2 decimals automatically but rounds them to nearest whole. If he types a 4 the edit bar shows it as 4.00 but view only shows the 4. If he types 324 the edit bar shows 324.00 but view shows 324 He went on vacation and everything was good, came back yesterday and now when he types a 4 the edit bar shows .04 and view shows a 0 If he types 324 the edit bar shows 3.24 but view shows 3. As most support people have heard, no one has touched the machine.. to his knowledge... and he has Microsoft automatically update patches. Has there been any Excel patches in the last release? If someone set it up accidently how do we revert it back to show 4 as 4.00? My mother has tried to set th ecells back to general and then back to Number showing 2 decimals with no effect. ALSO they have emailed the spreadsheet to the house from work and it shows correctly and works correctly there.. which is why I thought environmental issue on work computer (ie. Patch or worse virus) Any thoughts/ideas would be helpful. |

Look at tools/options/edit and fixed decimals to see if that has been altered.

First, go into ToolsOptionsEdit and uncheck "Fixed Decimal Places" Sounds like someone thought that was the place to format to 2 decimals. Not the right place.......that feature is used so you don't have to type the dot when entering numbers. i.e. 324 is automatically change to 3.24 To format cells to 2 DP go into FormatCellsNumberNumber and set the 2 DP there. 324 will show as 324.00 in cell but 324 in formula bar.
