Data that won't filter?????
Hi! I have a spreadsheet originally created in 1998 that has properly
formatted headings and no empty columns or rows on the sheet we want to filter. I have unhidden any rows or columns that were idden - there is no protection on the sheet or the workbook. What am I missing? What is keeping this data from autofiltering? The option is just grayed out. |

If the worksheet is not protected, perhaps you have more than one sheet selected. Do you see "[group] behind the filename on title bar? On the sheet tab bar you will see that two or more sheet tabs are white in color. Those sheets are grouped. Quite a handy feature if you want to do the same thing to several sheets at once, like insert rows or format some cells etc. Right-click and "ungroup" or select a sheet that is not in the group. NOTE: have a good look at the sheets that were grouped. What you have done to one will be done to all. Can lead to some interesting but unwanted changes if you did not know the sheets were grouped. One other thing to check......if the workbook is shared, you can use AutoFilter but Advanced Filter will be grayed out. Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Mon, 19 Feb 2007 05:19:27 -0800, Denise wrote: Hi! Sorry, nothing is protected. No sheets are grouped - because I had grouped
hoping that maybe a sheet was hidden but no such luck. I un-grouped them again to go through each sheet to unhide columns and rows. Thanks anyway to both you and hiskilini for trying! I had the same problem and none of the suggestions I found were helping. It
was a large file originally converted from Excel 97 with a lot of sheet links. So I tried grouping all the sheets in my workbook and used the "move or copy sheet..." function to basically move the whole file to a "new workbook" and it worked. Not a direct fix but a solution...good luck. "Denise" wrote: Sorry, nothing is protected. No sheets are grouped - because I had grouped hoping that maybe a sheet was hidden but no such luck.
