Sunnyskies

Formula to solve

Afternoon,

I have got 4 drivers with 2 relief drivers. Each of the drivers must rest
for 36 hours during a 6 day 24 hour week. The catch is on Saturday and Sunday
only 4 drivers are allowed to work in the morning.

I need a formula to work this out on a calender.

Sunnyskies,

I am sure that you know all the terms and conditions of your drivers but I
think that you will have to elaborate a bit more if you want help with an
answer.

For instance:
I have got 4 drivers with 2 relief drivers.

Does that mean that all 6 drivers can be used at any time or do relief
drivers work fewer hours?

for 36 hours during a 6 day 24 hour week.

How many drivers/vehicles are in use over the 24 hours?

I have got 4 drivers with 2 relief drivers. Each of the drivers must rest
for 36 hours during a 6 day 24 hour week.

36 Hours over a 6 day week is 6 hours per day, is this 6 hours during
working hours? What are the drivers/relief drivers contracted hours?

for 36 hours during a 6 day 24 hour week. The catch is on Saturday and
Sunday
only 4 drivers are allowed to work in the morning.

Presumably the company works 24 hours per day 7 days a week. Do you mean
only 4 designated,(ie full time drivers), are allowed to work on
Saturday/Sunday mornings? What about the rest of the day? If not how many
drivers do you need to be working at any one time?

Etc,. etc,. etc

Morning Sandy,

Okay lets elaborate some more and hopefully I will not leave out any detail.

I have 4 drivers per shift, so that means 8 drivers per 24 hours with 2
reliefs available meaning 10 drivers are available for a 24 hours shift, but
each driver is only allowed to work 72 hours a week. Each driver can work a
maximum six day working week, but must have a 36 consecutive hour rest period
with shift change over (day to night).

Hope this will clarify

It's not really an Excel problem

I have 4 drivers per shift, so that means 8 drivers per 24

I assume then that you have 4 vehicles and each shift is of 12 hour
duration.

each driver is only allowed to work 72 hours a week.

Is this an academic exercise? I thought that drivers hours were restricted
to less than that.

maximum six day working week, but must have a 36 consecutive hour rest
period
with shift change over (day to night).

Presumably the same applies to night/day shift changes.

In the above case, using the day off as 24 of the 36 hours, then effectively
when going from night shift to day shift you have to have two full days off.
(Say that the shifts are 8am - 8pm & 8pm - 8am, then finishing a nightshift
at 8am on day 2, 36 hours later is 8pm on Day 3 so the person will start
work at 8am on day 4)

Others may be able to do it for you but I found it to be impossible to fit
into a week with only 10 drivers working 6 days per week,. At least in 6
days in out of any 7 days, I was able to do it over a four week period but
although no one worked more then 6 days in any Monday - Sunday week, people
ended up working 8 days straight after a shift change.
