Getting excel to leave what I type alone!
Hi all,
There must be a really simple fix for this - help much appreciated. I'm trying to type in dates into cells in the format '10/07' i.e. October 2007. I'm typing them in exactly like that, 10/07, but it automatically converts it to 10-Jul. This is VERY frustrating, I have a whole load of dates I need to type in like this and I've tried a few 'custom' number setting in the format settings but nothing is working! Please help! Also another problem though less urgent is I occasioanlly need to type in special numbers that begin with a zero or two into cells. These automatically then get scrapped of all the zeros they start with, e.g. typing in 00123456 automatically converts to 123456. I know I can type in ' before the number as a quick fix but this just seems rubbish - there must be a more permanent fix??? Once again - many thanks in anticipation! |

Did you try formatting the cells as text before you typed into them?

If you typed the year, then excel would know what you meant.
10/2007 And if you're ever gonna do anything else with these dates, then you may want to make sure that excel sees them as a date--not text. === You could preformat your cells as text first, too.
