I want to put data in both down and sideways. By default after I put data in
a cell, the next cell DOWN is always highlighted. How can I get it to remain
where it is, rather than automatically go down.

From the menu bar, Tools / Options, select the Edit tab and deselect 'Move
selection after Enter' (note you can also choose to move in another
direction).
