Hi there
I am about to interview applicants for a job in my business. I would like to test these applicants in excel and word but just the fairly basic stuff. I want them to be competant in the basics of formatting, copy and pasting, links, simple formulae, such thigs as this. Does anyone have access to any tests or resources for testing people for excel? It would be greatly appreciated thanks Tony |

I don't have a ready reference to anything like that, but you could ask for
certificates of training relating to Office/Excel/Word from schools or recognized computer software training businesses. Another thing you could look/ask for is a MOUS or MOS certificate in the applications. MOUS (older term) - Microsoft Office User Specialist MOS (current term) - Microsoft Office Specialist Anyone holding either of those certificates, even on a version of Word/Excel back to '97 should have the skills required - at least they did when they tested for the certificate. Things haven't changed THAT! much from '97 through 2003, but don't expect anyone to really be up to speed on the new interface for 2007. Hello Toni,
If your applicants are VERY junior, consider a first question like "What are 5% of 100?". You will be surprised how many people will struggle with this one. Offering a pencil and a piece of paper would be cruel, of course. Next level could be a sample spreadsheet like http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...097981033.aspx which you prepare to be changed at some locations. Regards, Bernd |

We have been through this before, but if you have to ask questions like
this, how are you going to be able to judge the competencies of the applicants? -- HTH Bob Phillips (there's no email, no snail mail, but somewhere should be gmail in my addy) wrote in message oups.com... How about the mock ECDL/ICLD exams. Module 3 is word & 4 is Excel. They
should take about 20mins each and would give you a fair idea if they understand the basics. They are free on http://www.ecdl.com/products/index.j...ID=108&nID=208 -- John MOS Master Instructor Please reply & rate any replies you get Ice Hockey rules (especially the Wightlink Raiders) "Bob Phillips" wrote: We have been through this before, but if you have to ask questions like this, how are you going to be able to judge the competencies of the applicants? -- HTH Bob Phillips (there's no email, no snail mail, but somewhere should be gmail in my addy) wrote in message oups.com... Hi - Try the free tests at CA404.com (URL: http://www.ca404.com/tests.html ). They have a number of Excel tests (free) and other Office apps as well... I also see some at www.gent.ie (click on their tests page).
