how do i turn off auto fill?
every time i try to type "5-8", excel automatically replaces it with
"05-Aug". I've been into the options tab and turned off auto fill, but this didn't solve the problem. How can I stop this from happening? |

Autofill isn't your problem, the cell you are using is formatted as a date.

Excel is assuming your number 5-8 as date.
1. Right-click on the Column Heading (e.g. A, B, C to select entire column or made a particular selection as required) and choose Properties. 2. From General tab choose Text as Category and click Ok.
