If the child won't give it up sometimes holding them upside down by the
ankles and shaking helps. If all else fails, there is always the hairbrush.

I've read someplace that it will against the law for anyone, including a
parent, to hit any child under the age of 4.

I don't recall if it was national, or just in my stupid state of California!

Smacking a child should be illegal, of any age.

We're *not* talking about degree of hitting, but simply the concept of
physical punishment ... right Bob?

You must have been a very well behaved child then.

I *know* I wouldn't be where I am today (some may make jokes about that), if
it weren't for the discipline invoked upon me by my parents, which *did*
include a whack or two at the proper time and place!

I agree that not *every* child should automatically be exposed to this type
of penalty, but there are individuals in this world (child as well as
adult), where no other form of correction, other then chastisement will
obtain any lasting results.

And ... there are individuals where *nothing* will bring them into the
accepted mainstream of human behavior and conduct.

Do you *realize* that there are 10 and 12 year olds that shoot people? ...
On a regular basis!

How did they get that way?

Not just the abundance of firearms.
There are *MORE* stabbings and slashings then shootings.

That child didn't suddenly change to a societal misfit on his 10th birthday!
There were years involved in the forming of this (mis)behavior.

I do not agree with chastising a child at all - until I meet one in a
supermarket! <g
