Default Continuous hughlighting of cells

When I click on a cell I continue to highlight other cells that I do not want.

How do you toggle this off?

Do you see EXT in the bottom right corner (on the statusbar)?

If yes, try hitting the F8 key.

No, there is not EXT at the bottom right and F8 did not solve the problem.
Any other suggestions?

Try gently banging on the mouse buttons--including the wheel mouse button.

And maybe the ctrl and shift keys, too.
