Default What does it mean if an excel sheet is "reserved"?

I am on a network at work, and one of our excel sheets prompts for a password
when using it. Then after I enter the password, a dialogue box appears
stating that this sheet is "reserved" by another employee. I can still enter
the second password and work on this file, but what does this mean?
