can you make a formula color a cell rather than display OT?
 

I have a worksheet that someone else made and it has what I think is a
conditional formula
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(B9,patrols1,3,FALSE)),"(OT)",(VLO OKUP(B9,patrols1,3,FALSE)))
can this be made to color the cell rather than display (OT)?

You can use Conditional Formatting, without having to change the formula at
all.

Select the cell
From the Format Menu, choose "Conditional Formatting..."
Set "Cell Value Is" and "equal to"
Enter ="(OT)"
Set your format
Click OK

The (OT) will still be displayed, but if you really don't want that, then
you change both the formula and the Conditional Formatting to "" instead of
"(OT)"

Yes.

Select the cell with your formula and F2 then edit out the (OT) but leave "" to
return a blank if no data found.

You then would use FormatConditional FormattingCondition1Formula is:

=cellref="" Format to a color you like.
