Default pivot clears cell fill color

I am having trouble with the format of my pivot table...

I drag a data element down into the table and it looks fine. When I
return that element to the top, the white fill color I have applied to
all of the cells is gone and it then shows grid lines where the table
was. I just want a white background to remain no matter how I pivot.
Any suggestions?

thanks,
Chris

Right click on the table and select table options - preserve formatting...
