O. K. I think I figured it out. You have to click the `Full Screen' button
the little window. I still have no clue how the small window came to exist
in the first place.

Glad you figured it out. Often, if you open multiple workbooks, they'll go
to the non-full screen view. Also, each Excel workbook has it's own
minimize/restore/close buttons, could have been that you hit the restore
(which then becomes the full-screen) button accidentally.

Also, they key combination [Ctrl]+[F5] will put it into the non-full screen
mode, and then [Ctrl]+[F10] will restore to full screen.
