Personal.xls question
 

I would like to transfer my Personal.xls file to another computer so I can
run my macros at that computer. I thought I could simply swap the files from
one computer to the other. This didn't work and I think I messed up ther
Personal.xls on the new computer. Is there a right way to do this?

I prefer to leave the other Personal.xls alone.

Save your Personal.xls as an Add-in under FileSave AsFile typeAdd-in(*.xla)

Copy that to the other computer and install as an add-in to be loaded through
ToolsAdd-ins

Usually I don't answer personal questions, but in this case...

copy personal.xls from the XLSTART folder of the first computer and paste it
into the equivalent folder of the second computer

I carry mine on a Jump Drive.......take it wherever I go......just copy it in
to the new location.......

Gord I tried what you sugested and Excel said it was an invalid add-in. Well
aside from that, I need help restoring my old personal.xls configuration
because when I open a new workbook, I can't record a macro in personal.xls.
It says it's unable to find personal.xls in the startup folder. However, in
the startup folder there is a personal.xls there already... I don't get it.
How do I fix this, or restore the original personal.xls?

Did you overwrite your original Personal.xls when you saved as an Add-in?

As far as it being an invalid add-in, how did you save as?

FileSave AsFile TypeMicrosoft Excel Add-in(*.xla) is proper method.

Type in a name like MyMacros and Save.

What is the extension on the file you have in XLSTART folder where the original
Personal.xls should reside?

Did you just add the .xla extension to to the original Personal.xls to make it
Personal.xls.xla?

If so, it would be an invalid add-in and Excel would not see it as Personal.xls
either.

We should be able to restore your Personal.xls if we can find out the steps you
took.
