How to remove all instances of a command button
 

I have two command buttons with VB code behind them. Recently the buttons
were dropped from the spread sheet, and I couldn't figure out why. I deleted
the buttons and code and recreated them in the VB editor with two new
buttons. I am still receiveng the same error message when I open my project,
which is:

"Can't exit desing mode because control '\commandButton1 can not be created"

When in the VBA editor there is a drop down box that has all of my controls
listed including the two I deleted. How do I remove them from that list?
