Getting desperate!!!

Help with linking cells

I work for a mining company, and I need to be able to easily check if a piece
of equipment requires maintenance/repairs of not. I have created a workbook
for technicians to use when servicing these pieces of equipment. Once they
have serviced the equipment, they enter (using 'ticks' and crosses') what
status the different parts of the equipment are in. I need to be able to,
simply by looking at the first spreadsheet, whether or not a cross has been
placed in any part of the servicing sheet. Is there a way that I can link the
cells to a cell on the first spread sheet so that whenever a cross is placed,
it is displayed on the first spreadsheet.
Any assistants would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

One thought .. Autofilter might suffice ?

Just select the entire Status col, then click Data Filter Autofilter

Selecting the particular status*, eg: Y, X
from the autofilter dropdown in the top cell
would immediately give you the desired filtered list
*easier to just use alphas to denote the various statuses

Thanks for your reply. I tried that, but it hides all my other information
which i still need. I need it so that when any one of the cells has a cross
in it (whether or not a cell has a tick in it), the first spreadsheet shows a
cross in the cell indicating whether or not work is still required on that
piece of equipment. It is kind of like a checklist, and if anything is not on
the checklist, the checklist needs to be reviewed to see what still needs to
be done. Thanks again

I'm out of further suggestions here.
Do hang around awhile for possible insights from others ..
