Astra Schedule export to excel problems
 

We use some software for scheduling class rooms and it has an export to excel
function that saves the database information into an .xls file. When you
open the file two particular fields are formatted incorrectly and not easily
fixed. One field called the general education code is entered as 2a but
converts to 2:00:00 and thus becomes a time the other a credit hour field
entered 01-15 converts to a date of 1/15/2006 and ways to fix this that any
of you can think of? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like it's just the formatting that is wrong, rather than the data
itself. The easiest way to change the format for a whole field is to select
the entire column (click on the column label) and then set the desired format
through the Format¦Cells... selection. You may have to keep resetting it each
time you import the file as it may overwrite the formats you have set.

I wish it was that easy, but thanks for a try! Since excel converts the 2A
inot a time and 01-15 into a date they are thus serial numbers and so a
format cell converts it to for example 2:00:00 becomes 0.083333333 and 01-15
becomes 38732. Any other ideas?

You'll need to format the cells as text *before* you put the data into them.
