Symbols added to Word's AutoCorrect don't appear in Excel

I've added some Wingdings symbols to AutoCorrect options in Word, and I
thought I could access them in Excel but I can't. I tried to add the symbols
to AutoCorrect in Excel by using the character mapy Copy feature. But Excel
won't let me paste the symbol (or type its character code with ALT) into
AutoCorrect.

Any help greatly appreciated, and thanks.

I'm on an XL 2K machine right now, and I've *no problem* entering characters
into "AutoCorrect" using <Alt and the char code with the numbers from the
num keypad, *not* the numbers under the function keys.

That is strange.

Excel and Word both use the same *.ACL file for autocorrect.

In Excel 2003 I can use the ALT + number in the Autocorrect "replace with"

When using the Char Map highlight the symbol and CTRL + C then CTRL + V to paste
into Autocorrect.

Type the number on the NumPad, not above the qwerty keys.

Gord and RagDyer:

Thanks for suggestions. I thought I used to do this on my desktop PC. With
my laptop, I press FN then NumLk to turn on the numeric keypad function.
Then I use designated "number" keys (m=0, j=1, k=2, etc.) with ALT after
placing my cursor in the "Replace with" field in Excel's AutoCorrect to type
the char code, but I just get the "thunk" error sound and it won't take the
entry. I've tried CTRL + C and CTRL + V to paste, and only the square box
character placeholder displays instead of the symbol. I've tried Edit/Copy
and Edit/Paste from the menu alternatively with the same results. Might
there be something in Tools/Options that I don't have turned on? Thanks
again.
