Linking Spreadsheets in a Workbook

We have a workbook that has numerous links to other spreadsheets. When the
file is opened and you click Update to update the links it stops and asks
where the file is. The links use either DFSLinks or drive letters to tell
Excel where the files are. The files are in the same DFSLink/drive letter
but different subfolders. The links have been updated, but the next time the
file is opened the same thing happens. The workbook was originally created
in Excel 2000, and it could be possible that some people still open it with
that version. The file is modified by a person using Excel 2003.

Any clues why it always wants the links updated, and why when you update
them it sometimes uses the DFSLink and other times the drive letter? Any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
