How to change to the Indian Number System?
 

Hello,

can anyone tell me how I can format the Excel cells in a way that they
display the number in the Indian number system?

e.g. 10.000.000 Rs in the English system but 1,00,00,000 Rs in the
Indian system

How to change to the Indian Number System?
 

Create a custom number format of

=10000000]##\,##\,##\,##0.00;[=100000]##\,##\,##0.00;##,##0.00

This will format say 1234567890 as 123,45,67,890.00

i have found this reply on the web in several forums already, and
unfortunately it does not work.

the sample number 24270306 (or 24.270.306 in regular format) will
change to ,2,4.2,70.306 if the suggested custom format is applied.

suggested format:
[=10000000]##\,##\,##\,##0.00;[=100000]##\,##\,##0.00;##,##0.00

any ideas what the problem is?

Must be something to do with your regional settings, because it shows as
2,42,70,306 for me which is correct as I understand the Indian numbering
system.

Maybe you need

[=10000000]##\.##\.##\.##0,00;[=100000]##\.##\.##0,00;##.##0,00

excellent, your second suggestion worked!

there is just one little problem left: numbers below 100.000 will
vanish from the sheet if this formula is applied. is it possible to
expand the formula, so e.g. 35.000 will be properly displayed?

HI Bob,

I have a situation that needs a reversal of your process!!
Unfortunately I have the Indian numeric system being used I want to revert this back to the UK version how do I make a permanent change to this setting?
