Default formula is text, not resolving to an answer

when I type in a formula, by example =2+4 and hit enter, the cell displays
the text of =2+4 and does not resolve into a 6. How can I correct?

Sounds like the cell is formatted to text. Reformat the cell to number and
type it in again.

Format|Cell then select the number tab and choose number.

Try going up in the formula bar and deleting the equal sign and hit
enter.....then replace the equal sign and hit enter again..........

Possibly the cell was pre-formatted as TEXT.

Thank you. Simply formating the cell to a number did not work, deleting the
equal and re-adding it worked perfectly. Thanks!
