Can not do Add-Ins in Excel
 

When I pick "Tools", then "Add-Ins" in Excel (part of Office 2003), Excel
quits. I get:
"Microsoft Office Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience."

It then asks if I want to "Recover and restart Misrosoft Office Excel."

Any information would be much appreciated.

I think I try this first
Post back if it is not working after that


Reason: Maybe you have a corrupt or bloated xlb file *normal* size is < 30
kb.
The .xlb file has all Toolbar customization in it.

1. Close Excel
2. Do a search for .xlb in Windows (Use: search hidden files and folders)
3. Rename or delete the .xlb file or files (In 2002 the name = Excel10.xlb)
4. Start Excel

Deleting the file or renaming will do no harm to your system
Excel will create a new file for you.
(You lost your customization remember that)

If you make your own toolbars or add buttons to the others
this file is important (backup it so you can restore it

Thanks for trying, but I couldn't find an XLB file. Used using windows
explorer with options/view/show hidden files. Even went to someone elses
computer and couldn't find it there either.

Okay, found and got rid of Excel11.xlb. Still no luck (add-ins don't work).

Excel did not create a new xlb file even after rebooting the computer.

Look in the HelpAbout Microsoft Excel menu and see if you have a disabled
add-in
in Disabled items

If you make a change (however trivial), you'll recreate the *.xlb file.

(I don't have a guess about the real problem, though.)

Did you try Help|detect and repair? Or maybe reinstalling?

Dave - Ran "repair" to no avail. Still do not have an xlb file.

Thanks for your comments. Let's hold off a bit. Our "computer guys" put the
installation files on my c-drive for ease of installation. To rule out these
file being bad, I'm going to get the actual cd(s) and uninstall and reinstall.

GOT IT FIXED!

Uninstalled and reinstalled with the CDs, don't know if that helped.

I believe it was the Morefunc add-in. I just got a computer upgrade. With
the new computer, I went online and downloaded the latest Morefunc for my new
Excel. I believe this was the culprit and even after uninstalling morefunc,
the add-ins were still down.

Finally to fix it, I went to a colleague's computer and copied his files
into my "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Library". Rebooted and it
worked.

For future reference, the bad morefunc is the Setup.exe dated March 6th, 2006.
