There's no export to dbf files from XL2007?
There's no dbf export possibilities in Excel 2007? Is this an issue of the
new XL2k7 or I missed to install some add-ins? Thanks. |

Gone?! Hard to believe... You let me insert a dbf table in xls but there's no
way to save it back? (xls to dbf) C'mon! Don't tell me I have to get back to Office 2003! Does anybody meet the same problem? Please! I'm only the messenger! You intimate 'you let me insert...' Nothing to do with me...don't work for MS wouldn't want to. The only thing I would say is there are far more (IMO) that are missed too, (MS Works incompatibility for one), but I don;t build it... I'm just a humble boss of a tool and equipment co! -- HTH Nick Hodge Microsoft MVP - Excel Southampton, England DTHIS www.nickhodge.co.uk "Kluster" wrote in message ... Gone?! Hard to believe... MICROSOFT - PLEASE FIX THIS! here is another voice to complain about the lack
of dbf - which i and others use constantly for work in mapping programs like ArcGIS and even MSAccess. I love 2007 but there is no way I can't have this functionality. If you feel the same please post and complain as well to prove to Microsoft that their conclusion that this option is rarely used was dead wrong - lots of people use and rely on it. I appreciate finding out before installing XL2007! It's really weird that
they would take away such a tool. But if it is of any help, GIS 9.2 is supposed to be able to handle xls-files directly. Havn't tried it yet myself though, but heard of peolpe having trouble with it... /Johanna _________________________ Johanna Öhman Umeå University Sweden "bringbackdbf" skrev: MICROSOFT - PLEASE FIX THIS! here is another voice to complain about the lack of dbf - which i and others use constantly for work in mapping programs like ArcGIS and even MSAccess. Maybe they decided it's obsolete. Here's the notice in the footer of the
dBase main web page: ©2004 dataBased Intelligence, Inc. That's a few years old. Perhaps usage statistics also indicate that there are few people using this format. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com _______ "JohannaÖhman" wrote in message ... Why is this even an issue? Where's the utility/tool for this?
Johanna, 9.2 has a bit more direct functionality with Excel, but its not the way ESRI led us to believe it would be in their 9.2 roll out. Anyway, it shouldn't be a thought, the dbf format should be available as it has always been available... until now. BAIT & SWITCH! Excel files can be viewed but not edited in ArcMap 9.2 (I couldn't edit them
anyway). In ArcCatolog however, you can export the xls file to the dbf format. -- http://njgin.aclink.org "Kluster" wrote: There's no dbf export possibilities in Excel 2007? Is this an issue of the new XL2k7 or I missed to install some add-ins? Thanks. |

I too think that this is a real problem: I worked all the time exporting and
importing the attribute data for ArcGIS 9.X into Excel. ArcGIS works only with .dbf files for attribute data, but its so much easier to edit and process in Excel. I am really mad at Microsoft (ANYONE FROM MICROSOFT READING THIS???!!!) for excluding this feature. However, as I posted at an ESRI discussion board, the workaround is to open the Excel 2007 file in Access and then export it as a dbf. So, Microsoft still has the capability to export things as a dbf, it just forces you to take the extra step of opening Access, importing the excel file, and then exporting it as a dbf. Had I known this before, I would NOT have upgraded to 2007. Its too late, but for those of you who work with DBFs, DO NOT UPGRADE |
