1. Is there a way to create a pivot table where the sums are in the columns
and the groupings are in the rows...?

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, a little more information would
help.

Right clicking on the field labels in the pivot table and selecting "field
settings" will allow you to turn the sum function for the field on and off.

Adding a duplicate column of data to the source data for the pivot table
might also help you.

After you add the fields to the pivot table's data area, drag the Data
field button to the right, onto the cell that contains the word 'Total'.
