convert an .xls file into .mtf format

I have an Excel file that I need to convert into an .mtf file in order to
import it into a CMIS database. I've never tried to do this type of thing
before; I don't know what an mtf file is, and also have no idea if such a
conversion is possible. Could anyone help me, please?
