It may be a file that is loading automatically from your XLSTART folder.
Check here and remove any files that should not be loaded by Excel at
startup:

C:\Documents and Settings\<login name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

You can also specify a folder whose files excel will always open when you start
excel:

Tools|Options|General tab
If the user has any entry in the:
"At startup, open all files in:" box, then have them clear that box (don't
delete the files.)

This is the xl2002+ wording.

In xl2k and before, it was something like:
Alternate Startup File location

Make sure that that box is empty in that dialog--or only contains files that you
really want opened when you open excel.
