trouble entering dates
 
can someone help me with this:

when i enter a date, let's say

09/01/2006

it is display as 00-Jan-00, and the cell contains =09/01/2006

how can i enter it as the date that i want, which is 09/01/2006

Tools|Options|transition tab
Uncheck all those old lotus 123 settings.

trouble entering dates
 
Take out the equals sign.

In that formula you have asked it to divide 9 by 1 and then divide by 2006.
That evaluates to about 0.0045, or a time of about 00:06:28 on the first day
of Excel's date system.
