Can I protect a workbook so that when the user does "save as" the rights
remain with the copied file.

You can protect a workbook but a protected workbook is easy to unprotect. Xl
is not mean to be a secure application and shouldn't be thought of as such.
If you're concerned about other users accessing proprietary data or design
features of a workbook you designed, you probably should be looking at some
solution other than Excel.

Hi Dave,

By 'easy', by whom do you mean? A password cracking program or an 'expert'
user. Would the average user be able to find a solution easily and be able
to implement it themselves.

I have a workbook with protected sheets and workbook protection, have
forgotten thr password and can only find software that will break File Open
/ Modify passwords.
