Can't copy between workbooks

For some reason Excel won't let me copy and paste from one open workbook
to another. I can copy and paste between worksheets in the same book,
but not between different workbooks. I tried going through options &
preferences but didn't see anything that looked suspicious. I use to be
able to copy between books, but all of a sudden can't. Any suggestions??
Thanks so much!

Sorry for the posting error. Try to see whether the workbooks are
protected. Otherwise, please give me more details about what you would
like to do!
Thanks,
George

Won't allow copy/paste or won't copy/paste correctly?

Could be you are opening the two workbooks each in a separate instance of Excel.

Try opening both books in one instance.

The workbooks are not protected. It's any workbook I open. And I use
Excel for work so there are times when I need to copy formats or
formulas, etc. from one workbook to another.

Thanks,
Kim

Excel won't let me paste at all, it just beeps when I try. Even when I
have the files open in separate windows. The only way I have been able
to paste is by copying the entire spreadsheet from book 1 to book 2,
and then copying from the spreadsheet once it's in workbook 2, which is
a pain.

How are you opening the two workbooks?

Double-click on files or from FileOpen?

When you have one workbook open and you open the second one does a new instance
of Excel start up?

The term "spreadsheet" means one worksheet in a workbook?

I double-click to open Excel and yes they each open in separate
instances. And yes I meant worksheet instead of spreadsheet.

Go into ToolsOptionsGeneral and uncheck "ignore other applications".

Close Excel then your two workbooks should open in a single instance of Excel.

Your copy/paste problems should go away.

"Ignore other applications" was already unchecked on my Excel. Once I
checked it my 2 workbooks opened in the same instance...the opposite of
what you said. But I still wasn't able to copy and paste between the
workbooks, even with them being open in the same instance.

I have no more ideas except trying re-registering Excel.

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) StartRun "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)OK.
2) StartRun "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case StartRun "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no
quotes)OK
