From memory it's an adobe add-in try uninstalling adobe acrobat and then
re-install taking the advanced option and disable office integration. If my
mind is faulting, it is certainly an add-in. go to ToolsAdd-ins...,
un-check all and then add one back at a time and re-start Excel between
iterations until the issue comes back and that's your problem

Check this article

OFF: "Compile Error in Hidden Module" Error Message When You Start Word
or Excel

It suggests that PDFMaker.xla is the problem.

In my case, using Windows XP with Office 2007, the erroneous file was:

ExcelToGM6x.xla ( Microsoft Excel Add-In ) in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLSTART

I suspect that not everyone will have GoldMine, but that folder is a good place to start looking.

Initially I tried the Adobe Acrobat resolution but that didn't work for me.
