Default Floating Dollar Sign

Can anyone explain the purpose of having both the floating dollar sign
and the fixed dollar sign? Thank you.

I posted once in the misc group and once in the excel group. Different
people read different groups--yes? If you have an answer to my post,
that would be great.

Thank you

Crossposting is OK, multi is not!
Reason if you crosspost then a reply goes top both groups and this saves
others from posting unnecessary answers.
Had you crossposted, my reply would have been here as well as in the other
group.
best wishes

Got it. Thanks for the explanation and the answer. It won't happen
again.
