Error msg question
 

Firstly I hope that this is the correct place for my question... :) I hope
that you can help me.

I am trying to download a file from Internet Explorer (a list of phonecalls
from my telephone company). The 'File Download' dialogue appears with
'Open' 'Save' and 'Cancel'. I click "Open" so that the file contents will
open using the csv file format into Excel. The error message I get when I
try to open a file from Internet Explorer is "C:\Documents and
Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet\Files\Content.IE5\QXJ0P436\btbillsdfjlsfj k.csv' could not be found"

Previously this has always worked. With other sites, the download facility
is perfect.

I have contacted the website company with this question but no-one seems to
be able to assist.

Any ideas?

Rather than clicking Open, have you tried to click Save (and specify
which folder to save it in). That way you would be able to navigate to
the folder in question and open the file by double-clicking it.

I have to make the same recommendation that Pete_UK made - use Save or Save
As and put a copy of it 'local' to your computer.

The problem doesn't seem to come from the application, as Excel, but rather
it seems to be either a problem in IE or Windows - not keeping up with what
it's doing to itself and with temporary files.

Yes that's true, because if I just click Save then Cancel then click Open,
it will open the file... very strange behaviour which I've not seen before.

What do you think?

As this is an Excel group you may not get any replies to your question.
Perhaps a group dedicated to Internet Explorer may be able to shed some
light on this curious behaviour.
