Format Cells - Architectural Dimensions
 

Can I format cells to use architectural dimensions so that I can sort and
average dimensions? I need to be able to enter and work with numbers that
look like:

2'-6"
3'-8"

I'd rather not convert to inches if I don't have to. If I did that, I would
want a macro to figure out the math (i.e., 3'-8" - 44") since I have a lot of
data to deal with. Also, the nubmers are given to me in dimensions, and I
don't want to convert in my head as I enter data.

yes,i am sure it can be done,but the completeness of the solution will depend
upon how you want to use the resulting numbers.What do you mean by "sort and
average".what happens to the data afterwards,how is the data input or
imported.

I'm gathering the information from my students on various critical dimensions
(interior design class). They've taken a variety of field measures, and I'm
putting the information into a spreadsheet so that we can see numbers highest
to lowest, average distance, etc. I'm entering the data myself from their
worksheets, so there are about 20 sheets with 25 dimensions each. Once I
have that data, I want to be able to sort, average, etc., but I'm not doing
anything any more sophisticated than that.
