In the Data Analysis add in there's two t-tests: one for samples with equal
variance and one with unequal variance- how do you test to see if the
variances are equal or unequal using excel and therefore choose the right
t-test?
Thanks for your help.

Use the FTEST worksheet function or "F-Test Two-Sample for Variances" to test
for equality of variances. Help for the FTEST worksheet function is wrong;
it is a two-tailed test for inequality in either direction.

There is also a 3rd t-test in the Anlysis ToolPak (ATP): the paired t-test.

The 3 t-tests in the ATP are equivalent to the 3 types in the TTEST
worksheet function.
