Validation doesn't work

Excel 2003

DATA/VALIDATION
Allow:List
Source:AJ32:AJ40

When I click on a cell with this validation setting and pull down the
dropdown arrow "AJ32:AJ40" appears as the only choice in the list rather
than the text in that range. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance... Bob
