Suggestion for new cell formats for Feet and Inch
 

Many (most?) in the construction and many other industries in the U.S. use
Feet-Inch format for measurements. I wish Excel (and Access as well) could
understand and convert between the various measurement formats.

Normal feet-inch examples;

5'-6" (the dash is normal, but sometimes omitted)
5'6"
5'-6 1/2" (note the space before the fraction =66.5in)

In the above example, I think it would be best to store the value in decimal
inches, but display and allow input in the normal format.

Also common is the decimal feet or decimal inch format, but in this case the
" or ' is usually omitted, because the unit is understood. But, even for
this case, it would be nice to handle them.

Example of inch formats. (Note that some industries willl use 5/8" but most
want the fraction reduced to 1/2")

1in
1 1/2in
1 In
1 1/2 In
1"
1 1/2"

Examples of decimal Foot formats (never involves fractions)
1.5ft (is equal to 1'-6" or 18")
1.5 Ft
1.5'

The above can be formated with the custom data format, but we need to have
an easy way to convert between formats.

I know this post is from a while back, but I just reread it, and see that
I have an error. The above fraction 5/8" should have read 4/8". That type
of fraction is used in the wood industry, and of course will reduce to 1/2".
